In this day and age, different things influence children than they did 100 years ago. The Internet, music, television, movies, and videogames have become a large part of our society. You can’t go to the store without seeing the tabloids filled cover-to-cover with gossip, and the average child watches about four hours of television a day. That statistic doesn’t include Internet, music, and videogames.

Though good influences and role models are still present, it seems to be a dying trend with people such as Kanye West and Lindsay Lohan constantly in the media for controversial things they have done; drawing attention to themselves and making it seem like it’s a good thing to just get your name out there, no matter how.

That being said, there are so many celebrities and personalities that are popular and well-liked without any of the controversy. Those who carry themselves well and contribute to society become household names through their good publicity.

As we grow up and the new generation steps in, it is critical for them to have good role models to look up to and someone they can get inspiration from. The more technology advances the more it will intertwine in our lives, and even though there will always be bad influences, we need to be able to trust that there will be those good influences too, overpowering the bad.
