This year the girl’s golf team has been better than ever, making it to Districts and State. The team consists of senior Ashlynn Persing, junior Alexis Horn, sophomores Kayla Epperly and Kiana Cash, and freshmen Clare Dittemore, Katie Jones, and Peyton Price. Led by Coach Kevin Hunt, the team has improved and there’s been many personal records throughout the season.
Sophomore Kayla Epperly commented on her feelings pertaining to Districts and her season:
Q: What were your thoughts during Districts?
A: I just didn’t think about golf. When I did, I started to do worse. I didn’t think too much about what my ball should do. I mean, I did a pre-shot routine and all, but once I stepped up to the ball to hit it, I stopped thinking about golf. I tried to have fun with my group. I didn’t let my mind and thoughts roam. I tried to always talk.
Q: After Districts were over, were you happy with how you did?
A: I was. I mean, after my second round I was disappointed, but when I realize my team was going to start, I forgot what I shot.
Q: What type of emotions do you normally go through during a golf tournament?
A: When I walk up to the first tee, I’m nervous. But after that, I’m happy. Even if I have a bad shot, I’m still the happiest person cause I leave the bad shot behind me.
Q: What is your favorite golf course to play at? And why?
A: I really enjoyed playing Trysting Tree in Corvallis. Besides the fact the greens were really fast, the course was wide open and each hole had a new surprise that could have messed up your score. It was one of the courses I hadn’t played yet, so it was a new challenge.
Although this season has been challenging for many of the girls, they still pulled it through and made it to state as a team.
