Why Nicki Minaj is the Queen of Rap
Music artist Nicki Minaj has been in the music industry for years, trying different genres as well as changing the rap game. She has rightfully earned the title “Queen of Rap” considering the tremendous amount of accomplishments she’s made.
Nicki Minaj’s father was a severe drug addict, with a history of violence. That factor in her life drove her to rise above her parents. Dirty Money CEO, Fendi, discovered Nicki Minaj on her Myspace page and signed her to his label. Later, her skills grabbed the attention of Lil’ Wayne and they collaborated to make a mixtape that was released April 2007. After Nicki Minaj’s first single in 2010, “Massive Attack,” she won Best Hip-Hop Female at the annual BET Awards.
Nicki’s career is full of success, and she has managed to stay relevant for 14 years. She gained exposure because of her super explicit lyrics and bold persona. Her fashion includes colorful wigs and unique clothing. The artist has 18 songs that have charted top ten on Hot 100s as well as producing 39 gold/platinum singles and collaborations, according to RIAA. Along with that, she has collaborated with very famous celebrities such as Beyonce, Bebe Rexha, 2 Chainz, and many more.
One thing Nicki Minaj is well known for is her verse in the song “Monster.” Between famous rappers Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Bon Iver, she took the spotlight with her verse. In an Instagram post, Nicki Minaj explains how Kanye thought about removing the song because it would be the talk of the album. The song led to her being the first female to perform at Yankee Stadium on the JAY/Eminem stadium tour.
Nicki Minaj is a very unique rapper. She constantly changes flow between verses, switches genres, and has these personas in her songs. The rapper has many alter egos and has perfectly utilized this in her song “Monster.” In the song “Swish Swish,” Nicki Minaj changes the flow seven times in her verse. She has managed to stay relevant for 14 years, her career starting in 2007. Anyone that listens to her songs can appreciate her creative and eccentric lyrics. Her lyrics “I’m prolly with my jeweler playin’ freeze tag’ on the song “Good Form” is delightful. Comparisons between expensive jewelry and ice are common in the rap community. She is playing “freeze tag” with her jeweler because she is constantly getting new pieces. An in-depth explanation is on genius.
Without a doubt, Nicki Minaj annihilates the competition, being one of the most awarded female rappers of all time.
