Did you know that there are seven foreign exchange students here at the Roseburg High School? There are two students from the Rotary Exchange, the Rotary Youth Exchange program, also known as the RYE, is an international student exchange program for students in a secondary school. In RYE,  there are four students from the AFS (American Field Service) exchange program;  also there is one student from the Cultural Homestay International which is an educational organization promoting international understanding the good will of people to people exchanges.

When asked, “What have been your experiences so far at the RHS and In the U.S.?,” Helmi Kivilahti responded, “RHS has been an okay school ,but I miss my good school system a lot because here it’s not very independent and more strict. The U.S. has been really good for me, and I have enjoyed it alot.” Helmi is a foreign exchange student from Finland who has come through the AFS exchange students program. Sofia Rengevich also from finland responded, “Educational system is different, large variety of classes, and  school to easier, I like yearbook, football games, hiking, camping and tried waterskiing for the first time in my life. I also went to New York City and spent three days there.”

Varvara Trakia is from Russia and she was brought to the U.S. by  the Cultural Homestay International program. When interviewed Varvara Trakina  said, “I went to my first football and basketball games in my life. In Russia we don’t have school teams.”

It is interesting how they are sharing their background information. It is also really cool to hear about where they come from. If you ever want to listen more, than you can catch up with them in the halls or at lunch.
