Random Acts of Kindness Day, on February 17, allows people to perform random, good acts that affects everyone positively and contagiously–but in a good way. This day originated in New Zealand. There are plenty of ways that someone can spread kindness, and these ideas do not have to be limited to just Random Acts of Kindness Day. There are countless ways to be kind:

  1. Bring your teacher a gift.
  2. Do your sibling’s chores.
  3. Ride a bike or walk to school.
  4. Buy flowers and hand them out to people on the street.
  5. Say hello to people on the street.
  6. Give your friends random compliments.
  7. Feed birds in the park.
  8. Make dinner for the family.
  9. Leave a generous tip for the waiter.
  10. Spend time playing games or chatting with your grandparents or other family member(s).
  11. Help pay for someone’s groceries.
  12. Donate clothes that you no longer wear.
  13. Donate food to a homeless shelter.
  14. Let people go in front of you in line.
  15. Park farther away and let others park closer.
  16. Say hi to the janitor, bus driver, or someone else that you see every day.
  17. Pick up trash.
  18. Hold the door for people.
  19. Donate blood.
  20. Rake leaves for your neighbor.
  21. Ask your neighbor if there’s anything that they need to have done.
  22. Put a coin in a parking meter for someone else.
  23. Invite someone over if they’re feeling down or lonely.
  24. Hang out with your friend and bring donuts.
  25. Give someone a handwritten letter.
  26. Write down things that you enjoy about your friends and give it to them.
  27. Send coloring books to sick children.
  28. Leave some coins on a wishing fountain.
  29. Ask to wash your neighbor’s car for no charge.
  30. Message or write a letter to an old friend.
  31. Treat yourself a little better.
  32. Donate your hair from a haircut.
  33. Give a friend a ride home.
  34. Watch the sunset or sunrise with the family.
  35. Make hot chocolate for your family.
  36. Have a movie night (and maybe some popcorn) with your family/friends.
  37. Take your friend out to eat with they’re going through tons of stress.
  38. Try to go the whole day without complaining.
  39. Give someone a gift card that you are not planning on using.
  40. Plant a tree.
  41. Babysit for free.
  42. Volunteer somewhere to give to your community.
  43. Befriend someone you never talk to.
  44. Make a pop-up card.
  45. Get a birdhouse and fill it.
  46. Recycle bottles and paper.
  47. Look towards the positives in all stressful situations.
  48. Don’t waste paper when you write on it.
  49. Adopt a pet.
  50. Put sticky notes full of positivity around your school.
  51. “Pay it forward” by buying a cup of coffee for the person that is in front of you in line.
