Book review: “Madam” by Phoebe Winn

Are you looking for a good book to read during these dark days of autumn?  I just finished our library copy of “Madam” by Phoebe Wynne, and I highly, highly recommend this title!

Disturbing, twisty, mysterious, upsetting, and well-written, Madam is both deeply dystopian and horrifyingly plausible.  Synopsis: A young English woman is hired to become a Classics instructor, teaching Latin language and literature in a very elite Scottish boarding school for aristocratic girls. Immediately, all is not what it seems. As the story weaves and the darkness unfolds, mythological (Medea, Antigone, Medusa, etc…) retellings are interspersed with a feminist edge.

If you are interested in reading this book, or any others (!), please let me know!
