Astrology: The Basics

Has someone ever randomly asked you what your sign is or when your birthday is? They are probably asking for your zodiac sign. There are 12 astrological signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. But what does it all mean?

What is Astrology?
Astrology is a system that studies the effects that the planets and stars have on humans. Astrologers examine the correlation between the positions of constellations and their relationship to events on earth. By studying the patterns and positions of the planets at the time of a person’s birth, astrologers believe we can get an idea of that person’s character and potential. Not only can astrology give insights into your personality and possibilities for achievement. Placements can also help with timing events, exploring compatibility with a significant other, and making conscious decisions.

There are twelve zodiac signs, each sign having many different characteristics that make it unique.

Elements
There are four different elements; fire, air, earth, and water. The elements help us understand how the zodiac works.
Fire signs ( Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) can be described as energetic, confident, passionate, courageous, dynamic, spontaneous, and impulsive.
Air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) can be described as quick-witted, intellectual, born communicators, and indecisive.
Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) can be described as dependable, reliable, grounded, loyal, and practical.
Water signs (Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio) can be described as emotional, sensitive, empathetic, imaginative, intuitive and dramatic.

Qualities
Qualities There are three qualities; cardinal, fixed, and mutable.
Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) are the first sign of each season. Just like how they initiate the season they take that energy to everything they do. These signs have natural leadership skills, but they might lose motivation when difficult, big things come along.
Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) tend to have great endurance and want to go the extra mile. They tend to be unreasonable and stubborn.
Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) typically adore change, super flexible and ingenious. Adventure
is consistently calling their name and therefore erasing their boredom. They might have trouble figuring out who they are and are nervous folk.
Each sign is also divided into masculine (positive/yang) and feminine (negative/yin) energy. All the fire and air signs are masculine, meaning they are more likely to be more assertive and positive. The feminine signs, water and earth, tend to be receptive and passive.

Opposite signs
The twelve signs are divided into six groups, two signs in each. These groups are called polarities meaning opposites. Your zodiac sign’s polarity is its opposite sign on the other half of the zodiac.
Each sign has a “high vibe” and a “low vibe”. The high vibe of a sign is the more positive side and the low vibe is the more negative side. Every sign has tendencies, how we choose to use these tendencies.
