Former lead singer of band Smash Mouth, Steve Harwell, has passed away at the age of 56. On Monday, September 4th Steve passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. According to Robert Hayes, longtime manager of the band, Steve passed due to acute liver failure owing to his years of alcohol abuse. Health concerns arose surrounding Harwell when during a performance in 2021 “suffered numerous symptoms” from his heart condition. Harwell retired from smash mouth soon after that year. While it may be tragic to think of a star burnt out too soon, at least we know he shined the brightest he could, giving us songs that defined our childhoods and meme culture for decades.
