On Thursday April 20, the Fine Arts and Photography and Design classes made their way to the Umpqua Valley Arts Center (UVA) during third and fourth period. Led by Community Outreach Director Sarah Holborow, the students got a tour of the building. The UVA building consists of five galleries, Gallery 2, The Red Door, the Student Gallery, the Hallie Brown Ford gallery, and the Corridor gallery, all of which contain local art of all kinds, ranging from ceramics, watercolor, painting and photography.

Many students were overjoyed to see their work professionally displayed in the Student Gallery,  the majority of students coming on the trip to do just that. When asked, Hayley Gausnell, a student in Mr. Eckman’s Fine Arts 3 class said “You don’t have to pay to put your stuff in there, they give everyone opportunities to put your stuff in which is really nice.” Hayley makes art as well as jewelry, and has a necklace on display at the exhibit.

As Community Outreach Director of UVA, Sarah reaches out to the community to get information, as well as set up services like field-trips. She enjoys the community UVA has made, and when asked why, she said “We love having the community gather in our space to enjoy arts and culture. We have so many opportunities for youth to interact here, whether it’s the student gallery or the art classes.”
